Instructor Rick Lawrence
Instructor Rick Lawrence holds the rank of 3rd degree black belt and is registered in the Kukkiwon, World Taekwondo Headquarters and member of the World Taekwondo Federation in Seoul, Korea. A veteran, he had first experienced martial arts during advanced military training prior to serving overseas. Training continuously from 2002 he is presently working to earn the first Master's Level (4th degree) in Taekwondo.
His personal goal for martial arts is for a lifelong experience and to enjoy the mental and physical benefits of Martial Arts. "Using Taekwondo, I declared 'War on Old Age' and I am winning the battles. I plan to earn and be proficient in each, higher Dan (belt) Level, one by one."
Over 65, Rick Lawrence typically trains for an hour before each class jogging 4-5 miles, incorporating 10-30 pull-ups and 80-120 pushups, followed up with stretches and practice of his Taekwondo or other related martial arts. "In the summer, I like to add to my training, riding my mountain bike following a 10 mile course I like…full of hills. What is nice about going up…is the ride down on the other side!"
